The average age of farmers in America is 58. Agriculture needs to cultivate a new generation to ensure the vitality and health of our food systems. Our mission is to recruit, support and promote beginning farmers in Washington State.
We are a grassroots organization both for and by young & beginning farmers in Washington state. Our coalition is made up of young growers and our supporters living, learning and working in Washington State.
What do we do?
- We support beginning farmers in creating a vital statewide agrarian revival by offering unique social and educational events, enabling access to critical resources, and fostering a strong community of allies.
- We host events to encourage socializing, networking, and skill sharing among young farmers and their mentors.
- We strive to raise awareness about issues and barriers facing young farmers, and to compile resources relevant to current and prospective farmers.
- We partner with other compatible organizations in order to promote access to farm land, organize financial support for beginning growers, and leverage the voice of young farmers to affect change at the policy level.
We aim to foster and develop the burgeoning community of experienced young growers in Washington; provide material, organizational and educational support; and facilitate action toward an abundant, just and food-secure future.
We are a state chapter of the National Young Farmers Coalition.
